MIKI: The Magic Here

dusk

i hold
you in ways
you cannot
hold yourself.
as i hold
you against
my chest.
stolen breaths
of oxygen
that belong
to another.
i know
we will
come
and go.
like sunlight
making way
for dusk.
night and day.
the few
seconds
of existing
together.
holding onto
the magic
of being here
even when
we will just
disappear.
the magic.
here.
for a moment.

MIKI (he/him) has one main goal in life: to marry a gay pastor. The 5’7’’ volleyball setter from Seattle, WA enjoys iced coffee; grass, sand, and indoor volleyball; shallow pop music; and proper uses of the semicolon. His work was previously published by Diverging Magazine and TAYO. When he’s not swiping on Tinder, he often writes “metaphorical Instagram poetry” under the handle @_miki.gbp.
