Persephone’s Pomegranate

In Hades’ hand, the blade’s teeth grip
the leathered skin, slice
the sphere in half.

His palms invert the flesh, split
pith, crack
sponge walls.

His fingers prise the glistening garnets, pluck
them from their cribs, hold
the fateful seeds.
